Edible Oil Solvent Extraction Technology

FERRO OILTEK offers advanced edible oilseed solvent extraction technology, engineered for optimal oil yield, minimal hexane losses, and maximum efficiency. Our reengineered extraction plant is designed to accommodate a wide range of extraction capacities, ensuring high-quality oil with minimal residuals.

In today’s oilseed processing environment, choosing the right extraction method is crucial. Mechanical pressing often leaves considerable residual oil; solvent extraction offers superior recovery — often reducing residuals to under 1%. With growing demand for quality edible oils, by-product meals and sustainable processing, solvent extraction stands out as the industrial standard for large-scale plants.

Ferro Oiltek’s Technology Features :
1. High Extraction Efficiency : Our modular FX-Extractor systems are designed to maximise oil recovery from a wide range of oilseeds (soy, sunflower, cottonseed, rice bran, mustard etc.).
2. Customisable Process Flow : Whether you are working with conventional seeds or specialty oils (high-oleic, omega-3 rich), our design adapts to your raw material and output targets.
3. Eco-Friendly Solvent Management: Our technology integrates advanced solvent recovery and minimal hexane loss systems, supporting both cost efficiency and environmental safety.
4. Robust Automation & Scalability: Automated controls and scalable modules ensure you can start with mid-capacity and expand as needed, with consistent performance and reliable operation.
5. By-Product Meal Recovery Integration: Our De-Solventizing & Toasting system ensures optimal extraction and meal quality, converting spent seed cake into protein-rich meals with minimal residual solvent.

Applications & Benefits
Our solvent extraction systems are suitable for plants processing a variety of oilseeds including soybeans, sunflower, cottonseed, rice bran and mustard seed. Thanks to high yield, you achieve more output per tonne of raw material, while quality by-products increase your overall margins. With advanced solvent recovery, operating expenditure (OPEX) is significantly reduced. For example, industry sources cite reduction of residual oil levels to below 0.5% and high yields exceeding 95%.

Turnkey Solvent Extraction Plant Engineering

Ferro Oiltek integrates prepared oilseed flakes or press cake handling, extraction, wet-meal desolventizing and toasting, meal drying and cooling, miscella filtration and distillation, solvent recovery and supporting process systems. Actual equipment selection and process configuration depend on the feed material and project requirements.

Connected preparation and downstream systems

Review oilseed preparation equipment, the oilseed flaker, solvent extractor, desolventizing and toasting, and miscella distillation. Finished crude oil can continue to an integrated edible oil refinery plant.

How an oilseed solvent extraction plant works

The plant separates oil from prepared oilseed flakes or press cake and recovers solvent for reuse. The process produces two streams: an oil-and-solvent mixture called miscella, and meal that must be desolventized before further handling. Preparation, extraction and recovery equipment must be selected together for the feedstock and required throughput.

  1. Prepare the feed: cleaning, conditioning, flaking or expansion prepares the material for extraction. Review oilseed preparation equipment for the selected seed.
  2. Extract the oil: the FX-Extractor brings solvent into contact with the prepared material.
  3. Treat the meal: desolventizing and toasting, followed by the required drying and cooling, prepares the extracted meal for downstream use.
  4. Recover solvent from oil: miscella distillation separates solvent from the oil. Condensation and final solvent recovery complete the recovery circuit.

Specify the plant around your raw material

Ferro Oiltek supports soybean, sunflower, cottonseed, rice bran and mustard processing. The preparation route differs: for example, a sunflower project can combine mechanical pressing with extraction of the resulting cake, while rice bran needs its own conditioning and expansion arrangement. See the sunflower process, rice bran process and cottonseed process.

Information needed for a plant proposal

Send the feedstock, tonnes per day, operating hours, incoming oil and moisture content, required oil and meal specifications, site layout and available utilities. Identify whether you need a new plant, an expansion or a replacement section. Extraction performance, utility consumption and solvent losses should be agreed for these conditions rather than treated as universal figures.
